The approximate 10 mile loop will have plenty of tough short climbs, killer single track, quick descents and plenty of meandering through Bear Creek Lake Park to keep things interesting.

May

5/3/23 | Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial: Since 1991, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring.  The seven-week series will be starting March 29th.

5/7/22 | 12 Hours of Mesa Verde: The 12 Hours of Mesa Verde began as “Ride the Lightning” in 2003, but developed into its current 12 hour endurance race in 2007. Since its inception in 2003, the race has donated more than $500,000 to local youth organizations and programs with a focus on at-risk youth and youth empowerment.

5/10/23 | Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial: Since 1991, the KHMTT has taken place on Wednesday evenings in Cherry Creek State Park in early spring.  The seven-week series will be starting March 29th.

5/14/22 | Royal Gorge Six and Twelve:  This is a 6-12 hour endurance competition that is held at the Royal Gorge Park. Ride as a solo, duo, or team to complete the most laps in 6 or 12 hours while hanging out in a beautiful, family friendly venue. This is Zia Rides only event ever in CO, and we struck the jackpot using Cañon City as a venue. The town is lovely, completely supports the event, and there’s tons of fun stuff for families to do in the area with the Royal Gorge Bridge just minutes away.

5/20/22 | Salida Big Friggin Loop: Singletrack and Gravel mix, high elevation, back country self supported endurance epic. Ride the base loop or the long loop. The long loop passes through the ghost town of Futurity (with brief hike-a-bike).

5/28/22 – 5/29/22 | Gunnison Growler:  In 2021, we introduced two new race courses for Sunday’s event: the 20 mile Pup and the 40 mile Big Bad, featuring the Aberdeen trails for the first time. These categories replace the 2-lap, 64 mile Growler. Change is good, and we saw an incredible show of racers for both Sunday events. For those still looking for a longer distance challenge, the 40 mile Big Bad features our classic Growler course, with the addition of the Aberdeen loop, Hartman Rocks longest and most backcountry trails.

June

6/4/22 | Sunrise to Sunset Elephant Rock:  The Sunrise to Sunset Elephant Rock is designed to offer recreational and competitive cyclists the opportunity to compete in a fun and rewarding 12 hour endurance race on a moderately technical off-road course. Register as an individual or form a team that loves to shred for a memorable day of racing, camaraderie and laughs.

6/18/22 | The Hundo:  YOU ASK, WE DELIVER. TOO LONG? TOO SHORT? NAH, JUST RIGHT  Over the years, the shorter version of the Hundo (the Hundito) has surpassed the popularity of the original 100-mile course. So, to follow what our beloved riders wish, we have a course that is Goldilocks in length. Not too long, not too short, and plenty of singletrack.

6/26/22 | Revolution Enduro Series 2022-Eagle, CO:  The second stop of the Revolution Enduro Series takes us into the high alpine near Eagle, CO. 4-5 stages of single track, with one big shuttle bump to start the day.

July

7/4/22 | Firecracker 50: Come see what the local mountain goats ride every day. Each lap has 4000′ of climbing. The first 6 miles of that is on the climb out of Breckenridge on the old narrow gauge Railroad grade. The race starts the 4th of July Parade in a neutral start format by start wave. From there the odyssey sends you into the Backcountry. There are a couple of grunty little climbs, a couple of long lungbusters, some absolutely rippin’ descents and plenty of contouring flume and singletrack. Take my word for it, the course is a full-on MTB course. It has it all and it’s no gimme!

7/9/22 – 7/10/22 | Revolution Enduro Series 2022-Keystone, CO:  The third stop of the Revolution Enduro Series will consist of two days at the Keystone Bike Park! This event is a fundraiser for the Sam Schneider Legacy who’s mission is to raise funds for Ewing Sarcoma research, raise awareness for Ewing’s and other pediatric cancers, and tell Sam’s story. We will be racing in Sam’s memory and all proceeds will go directly to Sam’s Legacy Fund at CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. Learn more at https://curesearch.org/the-sam-schneider-legacy.

7/16/22 | The 719 Ride:  The locally-organized 719 Ride FESTIVAL OF NEVER-ENDING ASCENDING brings cycling and community together on a 14-mile loop course of neighborhood roads.  It’s AN ELEVATION CELEBRATION where repetition happens and beauty is found in a merry-go-round of uphilly-ness.

7/16/22 – 7/17/22 | Big Mountain Enduro – Purgatory: The BME Durango Purgatory event will take place on July 16th and 17th in the majestic San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Racers can expect two big days of racing, including some backcountry stages. Official practice will take place on Thursday and Friday, with racing action on Saturday and Sunday. The Purgatory Bike Park features quality downhill terrain at Purgatory Resort near Durango, Colorado and is an established pathway to over 400 miles of high alpine singletrack for hard core mountain bike enthusiasts. Durango is a bucket list destination and an event that you don’t want to miss.

7/23/22 | Winter Park Sunrise to Sunset:  Winter Park Sunrise to Sunset capitalizes on two well-established strengths: the Sunrise to Sunset model and Winter Park’s deep mountain-bike roots. Luscious singletrack trails crisscross the mountains of Winter Park. How good are they, you ask? Good enough that USA Cycling is hosting the National Championships on the Winter Park trails once again for a third year in 2022.  Ideal for a 12-hour relay format, the section of trails used in Sunrise to Sunset are just above town, making access and relaxation between laps super easy. Winter Park Sunrise to Sunset will be held in conjunction with Crooked Gravel, so at day’s end racers of both persuasions will be partying together at the bandshell and surrounding park.

7/24/22 | FoCo Fondo:  A gravel ride, a gravel race, rooted in the insanity of a Fondo with the levity of the Fort Collins community. Whether you’re into racing bikes or all day bike parties in the open range of Colorado. FoCo Fondo is your adventure. #doityouwont

7/30/22 | Telluride 50 / 100 Mile MTB Race:  Looking at 2019 Strava profiles from athletes post race the average was 13k ft of gain for the 100 and 6.5k ft of gain for the 50.  2022 will be approximately the same.  Start/Finish is at 8750 ft.

7/30-22 – 7/31/22 | Revolution Enduro Series 2022-Steamboat, CO:  Two day Back Country Enduro Race featuring the area’s most fun sections of single track, the Steamboat stop will be the same course as 2021. One day of back country in the North Route area, and one day on Grouse Mountain in Steamboat Springs. Food and beverages will be provided both days!

Colorado Springs cycling clubs who host regular rides

Power Haus: The Power Haus is what we have named our building as we have multiple cycling focused companies working out of here.  SRM, Performance United, Matheny Endurance, Medicine Wheel, KOM Sports Marketing and here soon Twisted Spoke.  Our shop rides leave the shop (720 W Monument, 80904) at 5:30 on Wednesdays and usually cover around 30 miles with roughly 3,000ft of climbing.  The routes vary but are always focused around climbing.  The pace is fast but they do regroup at the top of climbs.

COS Racing:  One of Colorado Springs largest cycling clubs.  They have riders of all levels, from casual or club riders all the way up to professionals.  Their club does nearly any type of riding but primarily focus on Road, Gravel, Mountain Bike and Track.  They do have a formal race team but also a number of club rides if you are not interested in racing.  They are a great group to work with and do a lot to encourage riders in our sport.

SoCo Velo:  Soco Velo is another local treasure, giving a lot back to the cycling community.  They have hosted a number of great events in the past including a week night crit race series.  Their moto best describes their friendly and laid back attitude, “It doesn’t matter your discipline – It doesn’t matter your level – Just as long as you ride”

Trails End Trailblazers:  The Trails End Trailblazer ride is a super fun weekly mountain bike ride that starts and ends at Trails End Taproom.  They host rides at both their Monument and Colorado Springs locations.  These are pretty much guaranteed to be a great time!

Rouge Veterans MTB Alliance: Rogue takes veterans and current service members that want to ride and introduces them into a group that will support and helps build their skills in mountain biking. We have a strong community and culture within the group that all support each other. Whether you need to learn to fix your bike or someone to just enjoy nature we got your 6 covered.

Colorado Springs Cycling Club:  CSCC is a recreational bicycling club which promotes safe and fun cycling for all ages and abilities. Whatever your level of proficiency, from beginner to experienced rider, our club offers enthusiastic cyclists many ways to get more out of riding.

Front Rangers Junior Cycling Team:  The Front Rangers is a youth cycling organization. Our mission is to provide youth aged 12-18 with a level of coaching and support to meet their personal needs. We have a variety of membership options – each with different approaches for recreational riding, training, racing, and coach involvement. We provide Year-round track, road and mountain rides and coaching, with weekly activities in season, plus winter season cyclocross and indoor training for all members

Kids on Bikes:  Kids on Bikes has made it their mission to get more kids riding bikes through education, providing access to bikes and by giving kids opportunities to ride they may not otherwise have.  They manage a number of bike libraries throughout Colorado Springs and give an awful lot back to our community.  They also run The Pedal Station which is a great resource for used gear and learning bike repair through some of their open stand / volunteer nights.

Annual Colorado Springs Cycling Events

719 Ride:  The 719 ride is a great way to challenge your climbing abilities with its 71.9 miles gaining 9,190 feet of elevation.  This ride is set up so you do up to 5 laps starting at Chipeta Elementary School to “complete” the ride.  Riders are more than welcome to ride fewer laps if they do not feel up to the full distance or have time constraints so it is easy to adjust to your own goals.  We love this event so are happy to offer $71.90 off any custom built wheelset if you can show you are registered for the 2022 event!

The Pikes Peak Apex:  The Pikes Peak Apex is a 4 day mountain bike stage race showing off a lot of the amazing trails in our back yard!  If you are not up for a full 4 day race or can not get the time off, they welcome people to race stages individually as well.  This event is always a great time, backed by some amazing sponsors.  The racing up front may draw some of the best athletes in the country but don’t underestimate how much fun people are having that are not in it for the podium.  The rest stops are always a party and the majority of the racers are out to have an amazing yet challenging experience.  If you are looking for event photos, we have them free to download of all the athletes on our Event Photos page!

Do you want your event included?  Contact Us and we would be happy to include nearly any Colorado based cycling event!
